About Us

SKIPTON MUSIC promotes a varied programme of concerts from October to March and also a concert for local primary school children. The concerts are always well-attended and the standard is consistently high.

SKIPTON MUSIC plays a large part in the cultural life of Skipton and the Craven area. Since 1947 Skipton has been privileged to have heard classical Chamber Music presented by musicians such as Kathleen Ferrier, Jacqueline du Pré, Nigel Kennedy, Tasmin Little, Steven Isserlis, Kathryn Stott, Manchester Camerata. We also give a platform to up-and-coming performers: recent memorable evenings have been recitals by trumpeter Alison Balsom, Heath String Quartet, mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnston, Leeds Piano competition prizewinner Jayson Gillham. Last Season included an exhilerating evening of percussion playing by O Duo, the first percussion duo to receive a Junior Fellowship at the RCM.

Concerts this Season are at Christ Church, Keighley Road. During recent refurbishment the Victorian pews were removed and replaced with chairs. Wheelchair access is via a side door. There is limited street parking but Cavendish St. Car Park is nearby with a pedestrian exit close to the church. There are many eating places in Skipton, hotel accommodation is plentiful and there is a late train to Leeds at 10.15pm.

Our continued success is due in large part to our 'members' who buy a Season Ticket in advance. The concerts are, however, also available to non-members who are always welcome. Tickets can be reserved beforehand or bought at the door. For more information please use our contact form or telephone the Box Office on 01756 799912.

The society is run by a voluntary committee and is grateful to the many corporate and individual patrons whose sponsorship and support enable us to continue and flourish.

Volunteers

The success of Skipton Music depends greatly on the efforts of volunteers who carry out a range of important tasks in preparing for the concert season and in running the services required during each concert.

The continuation of the society depends upon volunteers coming forward and offering a little time; the concerts do not arrange themselves!

We would welcome the next generation of people with a love and knowledge of music who can grow into the role of programme planning.
