The growth and development of Skipton Music has been achieved from its inception in 1947 with such names as Kathleen Ferrier, Moura Lympany, Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten, Jacqueline du Pré, Nigel Kennedy, Tasmin Little, Steven Isserlis, Kathryn Stott and John Lill. More recently the Swingle Singers, Manchester Camerata and Natalie Clein with Emma Johnson and John Lenehan played to capacity audiences. We also give a platform to up-and-coming young musicians.
Skipton Music promotes a varied programme of concerts from October to March and also a concert for 350 primary school children. The concerts are always well-attended and the standard is consistently high.
Concerts are normally held at the Town Hall, situated at the top of the High Street, with seating for 280 people in 18 rows. There is a large car park at the rear and the building is wheelchair accessible. There are many eating places nearby, hotel accommodation is plentiful and there is a late train to Leeds at 10.15pm.
The society is run by a voluntary committee and is grateful to the many corporate and individual patrons whose sponsorship and support enable us to continue and flourish.
